Raphael Pradhan (Director)

Mr Raphael Pradhan, an experienced educator and administrator, and a co-founder of The Learning Center (TLC) has spent nearly two decades in the field of education in Nepal. In addition to overseeing the routine operation of the Head Office located in Kumaripati his duties include preparing, planning and overseeing the Partners in Education (PIE) centers.

 

A graduate of North Point, Darjeeling he did further studies in Humanities in Kathmandu before completing an honours degree in English Literature at St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta. He also has a postgraduate diploma in software development.

 

After a decade of teaching at Campion Academy, where he was the chairman of the English Department and head of the Humanities stream, he served for two years as Executive Coordinator of the Godavari Alumni Association (GAA).



Biva Rai (Administrative Officer)
Ms. Biva Rai is an alumna of St. Mary’s School with extensive experience in the fields of hotel, travel and tours industries as an administrator in Nepal. In addition, she also was a part of Nirmal School then located in Jawalakhel as the Primary School Incharge.

 

She has been active taking care of Continuing and Remedial Education (CARE) program and Back to School program from their inception. In addition, she has been actively working for I colori del mondo an Italian NGO which helps out various orphanages and hostels here in the Kathmandu valley.  

 

BOARD AND ADVISORS 


Rev Prof Gregory Sharkey, SJ, FRAS, DPhil (Oxon)  (Chief Advisor to TLC)

Father Gregory Sharkey serves as an advisor to TLC, which he co-founded with Raphael Pradhan. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he is a member of the Jesuits (Society of Jesus) and an ordained Catholic priest. In addition to degrees in religious studies, theology and philosophy, he did graduate studies in Sanskrit and Buddhism at Oxford University. Fr. Greg is Professor of Himalayan Religion at the Kathmandu University Centre for Buddhist Studies at Rangjung Yeshe Institute, and is director of the Boston College Nepal Program, and of Desideri House, a centre for intercultural learning and religious dialogue. Fr Greg is also a member of the Jesuit secretariat for ecumenism and interreligious dialogue in Rome, and counselor to the superior general of the Jesuits for relations with the world’s Buddhist communities. He formerly served as director of the Jesuit research centre (HRDRC), moderator of the Godavari Alumni Association and patron of Social Action Volunteers – Nepal.

 


Jai Rajbhandari (Board Chairman)

Jai Rajbhandari, though electrical engineer by profession has been working in the field of social service for more than two decades. He has been promoting different kind of social enterprises which will benefit the large population of the community. At present, his latest project is planning and running Eco Farm, an orphanage home around Panauti area.



Pitamber Rawal Chhetri (Board Treasurer and Senior Advisor to TLC)

Pitamber Rawal Chettri Holds a Ph.D. degree in Economics. and is Professor of Economics, Tribhuwan University , Kathmandu, Nepal 

 

Has worked as the Executive Director of the Center for Economic Development and Administration (CEDA), the research and training wing of Tribhuvan University.  and chairman at the Central Department of Economics He taught in the university for over 34 years  and also was engaged in research. He is currently engaged as research consultant for power, energy, environment, resource economics, rural development and other sectors under numerous national and international funded study projects.

 

He has authored numerous journals, papers, and conference papers.

 


Biva Rai (Board Member and Secretary)

Swosti Rajbhandari (Board Member)

Swosti Rajbhandari is a visiting lecturer at Kathmandu University, Centre for Art and Design and a contributing writer for ECS Media. She has been working in the field of graphic design for more than 16 years and carries out freelance projects as well. Apart from that she is doing research on the promotion of Nepali history and culture.

 


Phanindra Khatry (Board Member)

Mr. Phanindra Khatry who has a master’s degree in Zoology from Tribhuwan University has been a part of TLC’s Partners in Education (PIE) program from the very beginning. His contribution largely has been in designing syllabi for the various courses that are taught in PIE classes and creating standard exams for the evaluation of PIE students. He is the assistant lecturer in Amrit Science Campus, one of the oldest Science campuses of Nepal and the Principal of Jalupa Secondary School situated in Kathmandu.
